Ingredients

For the Cake
  • 3 cups apples (sliced), juicy and tart Choose tart apples for the best flavor.
  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour For a perfect structure.
  • 2 large eggs To bind and add richness.
  • 0.75 cups sugar Provides sweetness.
  • 0.5 cups melted butter Gives it a rich and moist texture.
  • 0.5 cups milk For creaminess.
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder To ensure a lovely rise.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract For a hint of warmth.
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon The star spice of the cake.
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt To balance the flavors.

Method

Preparation
  1. Prep the Apples: Peel, core, and slice the apples into thin wedges.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: Whisk together the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt in a medium bowl.
  3. Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large bowl, cream the melted butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Incorporate Eggs and Vanilla: Add each egg one by one while mixing well, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Combine Wet and Dry Ingredients: Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the butter mixture, alternating with the milk.
  6. Prepare the Pan: Pour the batter into a greased 9-inch cake pan and smooth the top.
  7. Top with Apples: Arrange the sliced apples on top of the batter, pressing them slightly into the mixture.
  8. Bake: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 45-55 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
  9. Cool and Serve: Allow the cake to cool for 10 minutes in the pan, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For added flavor, sprinkle brown sugar on top of the apples for a caramelized finish. Consider mixing in nuts for texture or using whole wheat flour for a healthier option.
